The Smashing Pumpkins Commemorate 25th Anniversary of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

The Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is 25 years old and the band has announced what they’re doing to mark the occasion.

By way of celebration, Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain have revealed they will be taking part in a very special one-off live virtual chat. It will be moderated by Daniel P Carter and will include a live Q&A and discussion which will take place via Zoom on Friday, October 23 at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm GMT. This album is often thought of amongst the greatest albums of all time, and is one of the biggest selling alternative rock albums since it was released in 1995. The 28-track classic debuted at #1 in the Billboard charts and received an impressive seven GRAMMY Award nominations and nine MTV Video Music Award Nominations. It included is hit singles, such as “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “1979,” “Tonight, Tonight,” and “Zero.” 

Today, The Smashing Pumpkins confirmed there will be a world arena tour to celebrate the anniversary. It was originally scheduled for October 23 but due to COVID-19 restrictions has been postponed until 2021. Dates and additional information will be revealed soon. They also confirmed that a second concept album is in the works and will be out late 2021. This will be the third album in the trilogy.

November 27 will see the release of their highly anticipated eleventh studio album, CYR. It has been produced by Billy Corgan and features original members James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin and guitarist Jeff Schroeder.
