The long wait is almost over as the release date for Tom Petty’s comprehensive collection Wildflowers & All The Rest is confirmed.
Towards the end of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers‘ 40th anniversary tour, Tom Petty mentioned that his next big project would be to revisit his 1994 release, Wildflowers. When he initially worked on the masterpiece, he penned and recorded 25 songs with the vision of it being a double album. However, the record label advised against it, and it was released as a single album with just 15 of these songs included on it.
Over the years, Petty mentioned wanting to reissue this album along with a Wildflowers tour to coincide with the release. He had always intended to release the second half of the album which would include the ten songs that were left off the original release, as well as five additional songs.
Tom’s family, bandmates, and collaborators have worked to bring his vision to fruition, unearthing previously unheard songs. Wildflowers & All The Rest will be available from October 16 and is available to pre-order now.
Today, “Wildflowers (Home Recording)” premiered with an accompanying video. This is a solo demo version of the title track and the video includes never before seen footage of Tom at his home. You can hear it for yourself here:
Wildflowers & All The Rest will be available in a number of formats. The deluxe edition features 15 recordings made by Tom in his home studio as he was writing the album. It also includes 14 live performances of songs from the original release, recorded from 1995 to 2017. The super deluxe edition is a limited edition set which includes Finding Wildflowers, 16 studio recordings of different versions of the Wildflowers songs.
