Tom Petty’s Family Release Original Demo

The original demo of “You Don’t Know How It Feels” was released at midnight eastern by Petty’s family.

The 8 track demo was recorded by Tom Petty in his home studio back in 1993. The version that ended up being recorded for the album Wildflowers, however, had slightly different lyrics to this version, particularly for the second verse.

This song is said to be part of a forthcoming Wildflowers project on Warner Record which we can’t wait to hear more about. Prior to his death, Petty was said to have been revisiting the album which originally was almost released as a double album.

“The family and the band are in a joyful process of discovering the Wildflowers sessions and demos and wanted to share a tiny bit of that with the fans today,” said Adria Petty on behalf of the Petty Family.

The animated video was created and directed by Ben “Blaze” Brooks and Aaron Hymes. Check out the demo and video of the classic hit here:

The world lost Tom Petty in October 2017, and its things like this that his fans are eager to hear. As you can hear listening to this demo, it was very close to the final recorded version which was released in 1994. Hopefully, there’ll be a lot more of this material for us to hear in the future because we can never get enough of Mr. Petty. We just wish he was here to see his Wildflowers project through to fruition.
