Will Joseph Cook at The Basement in Columbus, OH

All the way from Kent, England, Will Joseph Cook continued his tour making a stop at The Basement in Columbus, Ohio.

Opening up for Will Joseph Cook was alternative-pop band DBMK. While DBMK’s sound is alternative pop, they also have a very eclectic range of songs. The duo made up of longtime friends Kyle Knudsen (vocals) and Colton Ward (drums) are based out of Nashville, Tennessee. DBMK’s entrance into their set was very exciting for fans as they were accompanied by low-lit green lights and their signature masks. The audience seemed to enjoy their set and were seen dancing around in the pit during the performance. DBMK played their incredibly catchy song, “Thin” from their EP Jump in The Dark. Lyrics, “One, two, three, four I think I’m forever bored/ Five, six, seven, eight I pretend that I feel / One, two, three, four I think I’m still at your door/ Five, six, seven, eight I pretend that I feel great” will be stuck in fans head for sure. The sound from “Thin” was reminiscent of Machine Gun Kelly, but still distinctive with their own sound. DBMK also played their songs “Haunted House” and “I Heard You Had a Girlfriend.” Their latest album release is Archived Works which features a total of 23 tracks.

Next, all the way from Kent, England was Will Joseph Cook who is headlining his first tour in America. Cook’s music is overall really upbeat and a mixture of quirky pop. To kick off his set, Cook opened up with “Something to Feel Good About” and “Kisses” which are two songs from his albums titled, Every Single Thing and Something to Feel Good About. Both “Something to Feel Good About” and “Kisses” are playful upbeat songs, sharing themes of how it feels to be into someone. “Something to Feel Good About” is actually quite deep-dwelling in juxtaposing themes of being able to lean on people when you need them through all the rough patches you go through in life. The lyrics, “I wanna be your something to feel good about/even when it rains/ I wanna be your something to feel good about,” explores this theme.

Cook is not entirely new to the music scene and his tracks date back to 2015. It’s apparent from Cook’s performance that he’s done this a time or two. Cook was incredibly fun and charismatic on stage which made him entertaining to watch perform. Cook continued the night with his large setlist of other hits, “Girls Like Me,” “Little Miss,” “The Feels,” “Wayside,” “4AM,” Daisy Chains,” “The Dragon,” “She Likes Me,” “Beach – I Wanna Make You Mine,” “Fish,” “MF Baseline,” “We Met On The Internet,” “Be Around Me,” and “BOP.” The latest release from Cook is “MF Bassline” which he released only last month. Unlike his more upbeat songs, “MF Bassline” theme is more melancholy and centered around feeling low.
