Wallows at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving, TX

Los Angeles-based indie-pop band, Wallows electrified and amazed the great city of Irving, TX, while on their 2024 Model World Tour.

The three-member band, Wallows formed when they were just teenagers. The band is made up of Dylan Minnette (vocals/guitar), Braeden Lemasters (vocals/guitar), and Cole Preston (vocals/drums). In 2017, they released their first single, “Pleaser.” The following year they were signed to Atlantic Records. Since then, they have been hard at work. Now with three full-length albums and multiple EPs, the band can say they have some experience under their belt. Their latest release was their third studio album, Model. The album came out in late May. Touring with the guys are musicians, Danny Ferenbach (keys/trumpet), Blake Morell (bass/keys), and Kevin Grimmett (guitar/keys).

Opening and touring with the band on their world tour is alternative pop artist Benee. Benee is from New Zealand but has spent a hot second in North America. From performing at Coachella to opening for Olivia Rodrigo, it’s safe to conclude she is heading in a successful direction. As soon as she took to the stage, the crowd was infected with energy. She opened with “Kool” from her 2020 album Hey u x. Benee came out wearing a Texas A&M shirt, not knowing they were the rival school for the local audience members. After realizing thanks to the crowd, she tried to cover up the A&M part periodically during the show with her hand.

Throughout the entire night, Benee waved, blew kisses, and remained extremely interactive with fans. She played a few unreleased songs she introduced as “Sad Boiii” and “Animal.” Before closing her set, she performed one of her newer singles from 2023, “Green Honda” which the audience went crazy over. She then closed with her 2019 “Supalonely” which went viral in 2020 after a TikTok creator made a cute dance to the song. Benee was a treasure to watch and everyone can expect to see great things come from her.

At 8:40 PM, Wallows began their set. With a large curtain blocking fans’ view of the stage, the intro to their song “Do Not Wait,” commenced. They performed the song behind the curtain, with only their shadows on the white curtain separating them. As the song ended, it bled into the first single released from their latest album Model, “Your Apartment.” When the beat dropped, so did the curtain. The audience went insane. They played a few more songs from their new album before Minnette and Preston swapped places on stage. Preston grabbed a guitar and Minnette headed for the drums. Preston performed one of the few songs he sings lead on, “Quarterback.” The song is from their 2020 EP Remote which they made remotely, separated from each other thanks to the Covid pandemic.

During the song “She’s an Actress,” Minnette jumped down from the stage and into the pit with fans. He made his way through the crowd to a smaller stage at the back of the pit. The two other members joined Minnette. There they performed three acoustic versions of their songs. Before playing the last song on the B-stage, Lemasters told the crowd a fan earlier that day asked if he would play a specific song and he decided he would. They played “Let the Sun In” and then Minnette and Preston returned to the main stage while Lemasters stayed back to start “Worlds Apart.” During “Worlds Apart,” Lemasters walked through the audience as he sang his way back to the rest of the band. They played a few more songs before leaving the main stage, only to return for an encore. The last two songs they played were “Are You Bored Yet?” from their debut studio album Nothing Happens and “Only Ecstasy,” the closing track from Model.
