Excitement brimmed in Nashville’s cozy venue, The Basement, as fans eagerly awaited the performances of A Boy and His Kite and Tow’rs.
Nashville’s intimate venue, The Basement, was filled with anticipation as fans eagerly awaited Tow’rs performance. Opening the night was A Boy and His Kite, a band fronted by singer-songwriter-producer Dave Wilton, known for their captivating blend of indie rock and folk influences. Tyler Cuchiara, who joined on drums and keyboard, also played with Tow’rs. A Boy and His Kite set the tone for an evening full of heartfelt and moving music, seamlessly blending the indie rock and folk sound.
Throughout their set, A Boy and His Kite delivered memorable moments, including a stirring rendition of Bob Dylan’s “With God On Our Side,” the song “Cover Your Tracks,” and guest vocalist Latifah Alattas, who added another layer of depth to the performance, enriching the songs with her soulful voice.
Next to take the stage was Tow’rs amidst cheers and applause from fans who traveled far and wide to catch the set. The band is comprised of Kyle Miller (guitar/vocals), Gretta Miller (guitar/vocals), Dan Bagley (guitar/vocals/keyboard), and Tyler Cuchiara (drums). The band’s latest album, Joy Alchemy, served as the backdrop for an emotional journey that unfolded throughout the night.Kicking off their set with “The Girl in Calico,” Tow’rs immediately captivated the audience. Tow’rs possesses a wonderful ability to deliver their music with such raw sincerity that it is hard not to be moved when listening to each song/story.
One of the early highlights of the evening was the performance of “Vanilla Pines,” which ended with the band slipping into a cover of “Landslide” by Stevie Nicks, providing the audience with the first big sing-along of the evening. You could feel a collective catharsis emerging from the crowd. As the night progressed, Tow’rs showcased their versatility with tracks like the dreamy yet melancholy “Forgone” and “Uncertainty,” which ended in a wonderful buildup of drums that had the crowd all moving together. The incredibly poignant “I Must Believe in the Morning” helped to round out the evening with the audience becoming a backing choir.
During the concert, it was mentioned that Tow’rs’ first album (the self-titled Tow’rs) came out ten years ago. The band announced they would be coming out with a new album soon in which they will be re-recording a few tracks from each of their albums in a new and unique way. The new album will be a much-welcomed addition to the Tow’rs discography for certain.
Tow’rs closed out their set by moving the band to the middle of the venue and bringing out Dave Wilton to join in singing on “Clouds.” The audience circled around the band and joined in one last sing-along for the night. It was a beautiful display of harmonies and community from the Nashville audience.
