Third Eye Blind returned to Sioux Falls, South Dakota alongside Rowan Grace, and American Scarecrows, resulting in an unforgettable night.
Minneapolis-based American Scarecrows kicked off the show by energizing the crowd with their upbeat songs. Their music has been around for at least a decade and is described as “Rock & Roll from the north country.” With their multiple genre influences, their songs kept you on your toes. Their energy and sound were the perfect way to start the night off right. Not only did they get the crowd involved by clapping their hands to the music together, but they appeared excited to be on stage performing as well. It was refreshing to see so much liveliness that early on that night. Their talent left the audience feeling awake and ready to take on the rest of the night.
Rapid City’s former top-ten contestant on The Voice, Rowan Grace, took the stage next. The group played a mixture of original, unreleased, and cover songs. Cover songs “Picture to Burn” by Taylor Swift, “Treasure” by Bruno Mars, and “Ain’t It Fun” by Paramore had the crowd singing and dancing to the music, to which the singer commented on their dancing skills. Not only were the unreleased and original songs catchy, but the performance was what made Rowan Grace so excellent. Not only did the band sound amazing, but the young singer’s voice and stage presence seemed to be second nature. Make sure to keep an eye out for new music being released soon.Third Eye Blind then began their set with the acoustic song “Motorcycle Drive By.” The song was a calm start to the show, which then led in to more of their faster rock sound that they are known for. The band made sure to play songs from a variety of their albums. The band created involvement with the audience by clapping to the beat of the music together. Their song “Jumper” had the crowd yelling their lyrics back to them. “Semi-Charmed Life” and “Jumper,” of course, received a loud eruption of cheering from the audience before and after it was performed.
After the band exited the stage, the audience was screaming for an encore. After loud, non-stop cheering and clapping, the band returned to perform “How’s It Going to Be,” another acoustic song, to close out the night. Because the night started and ended with an acoustic song, while also including their faster songs in the middle, it resulted in a unique but balanced setlist.
This venue is typically known for its sports events, concerts are usually not held here. Third Eye Blind’s performance will stand out as being one of the most superior bands to have headlined the Sanford Pentagon.
