The Wonder Years started to wrap up the last leg of their Hum Goes on Forever Tour at the historic Athenaeum Theatre located in Columbus, Ohio.
Carly Cosgrove, Hot Mulligan, and The Wonder Years continued their largely pop-punk tour titled The Hum Goes on Forever at the historic Athenaeum Theatre in downtown Columbus, Ohio on a frigid March night. The Athenaeum Theatre was built in 1896 and holds over a century’s worth of history and all three bands commented on how this theatre was one of the most unique venues they’ve ever played at.
Carly Cosgrove started the night off right with a tremendous and upbeat setlist. Their setlist was largely lighthearted and, overall, really charismatic. Carly Cosgrove is made up of band members Lucas Naylor (guitar and vocals), Helen Barsz (bass), and Tyler Kramer (drums). Arguably the most relatable moment from the night was their introduction to “You Ate My Enchilada” which is described by the band as a song about being in student loan debt – which is something the majority of the audience could relate to especially being close to The Ohio State campus. More crowd favorites that had fans singing along were their songs “Really Big Shrimp” and “Not My Job.” By the end of their set, they had fans crowd surfing and well warmed up for Hot Mulligan to take the stage next.
The evening continued when the highly anticipated Hot Mulligan took the stage to meet eager and excited fans. Hot Mulligan started their set off by playing crowd favorites “OG Blue Sky,” “*Equip Sunglasses*,” and “Digging In” all from their album you’ll be fine. By the start of the second song, fans had already taken to crowd surfing. Hot Mulligan also played their new single “Shhhh! Golf is On.” The band from Lansing, Michigan, is comprised of Brandon Blakeley (drums), Nathan Sanville (lead vocals), Chris Freeman (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Ryan Malicsi (lead Guitar).Although most of Hot Mulligan’s set was upbeat and perfect for jumping and moshing around, Sanville created an intimate moment with fans while performing “Heem Wasn’t There” which is an acoustic single from their Acoustic Vol. 2 EP. Fans accompanied Sanville by singing along with the lyrics and starting a beautifully lit light show with their camera phone flashlights.
To take the night home, The Wonder Years came out strong and played their first song “Doors Painted Shut” from their new album The Hum Goes on Forever which they accompanied with a matching dramatically backlit set. The pop-punk band from Lansdale, Pennsylvania is made up of Dan Campbell (lead vocals), Casey Cavaliere (lead guitar, backing vocals), Matt Brasch (guitar, vocals) Josh Martin (bass, vocals), Nick Steinborn (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals) and Mike Kennedy (drums, percussion). The Wonder Years continued their set with another song from their new album “Wyatt’s Song.” They also played one of the band’s only love songs, “You in January.” Campbell shared during the show that several people have gotten engaged to that specific song during previous shows. However, nobody in the audience took advantage of the opportunity to propose during “You in January” this night of the tour.
