The Warning at The Machine Shop in Flint, MI

The Warning enthralls an enthusiastic crowd on the  Mayday Tour 2022 at the world-famous The Machine Shop with support from Hero the Band.

Hero the Band gets the show started with a great set. These four brothers from Decatur, GA play a cool, genre-spanning mix of alternative, pop, rock mixed with some rhythm & blues, and soul. They are comprised of Justin Barnett aka Ocean (vocals, guitar), Jerramy Barnett aka Goku Love (vocals, bass); DJ Barnett aka BamBam (vocals, drums), and Nick Barnett aka Nicky Jupiter (guitar, keyboards). All of them contribute vocals and they are highly active and animated on the stage, especially Goku Love. They have been getting some national attention with the single “Might Find Love” that is on regular rotation on SiriusXM Alt Nation. They kick off their set with “Geppetto” and also play “The Thrill,” “Trouble in My Mind,” “Back to Myself,” and “Jump.” They close out the set with the Foo Fighters’ “My Hero,” which has the crowd singing along. They are a great warm-up for the headliner to come.

The lights fade and The Warning takes the stage and jumps right into the rocking song “Z” with its hook-laden guitar riffs and pulsing drum beat. They are the three Villarreal sisters from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico who are making waves in the rock world with their high-energy sets and strong songs. Daniela (Dany) on guitar and lead vocals, Paulina (Pau) on drums and lead vocals, and Alejandra (Ale) on bass and backing vocals know how to put on a killer show. They formed in 2013 and have several albums/EPs including their latest release, Mayday. Their stage presence is better than many of the rock veterans, even though they are still young with Alejandra being only 17 years old.

They play “ANIMOSITY” and follow that up with the title track from Queen of the Murder Scene. Both songs have Dany tearing through the guitar leads and playing up to the fans up front. With the opening notes of “Choke,” the fans let out cheers and join in singing this popular single. Next up is their new single “MONEY” which also has the fans heavily engaged in singing along. They slow it down a bit with “Dust to Dust” which showcases Pau on vocals through most of the song. Towards the end, Dany takes over with some soaring vocals that have the fans cheering as they look on with amazement. “Dull Knives (Cut Better)” also from Queen of the Murder Scene, features all three jamming with Pau pounding the drums with authority.

Keeping the momentum going, they play fan favorite “DISCIPLE” which has the crowd fired up. It features Dany rocking the leads and leading the crowd in a chorus of “ohs.” “Narcisista” finds Pau leading the charge with her powerful drumming and vocals, while Dany and Pau rock out center stage. Slowing things down again, Dany introduces their cover version of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” It is definitely different than the original but has a cool vibe and the fans love it. Adding to the vibe are some cool beams of white light from behind the band. “Survive” is another catchy song that once again has the crowd singing along, especially with its chorus of “ohs”.

Winding down their set, they play “MARTIRIO” and then the highlight song of the evening, “EVOLVE,” which has Paulina putting a thrashing on the skins, while Ale’s tight bass sends vibrations through the venue. About halfway through the song, Dany leads the crowd in clapping while dancing about the stage while Ale lays down a bass groove. Then Dany and Ale face off at center stage and move in a circle as if in a standoff before Pau lets out a wild scream and all three ramp up the pace. The song also features flashing beams of light and smoke. It leaves the fans cheering for more. They close it out with “P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C.” with its catchy chorus which has the crowd pumping their fists in the air and putting up their horns. The three sisters bow to the crowd and thank them, and Dany proclaims “We love you” before exiting.

As is usual, the lighting and sound at The Machine Shop are top- notch and further add to the vibe and enhance the overall performance of the band. Be sure to catch them when they come to a nearby venue. After their headline tour, The Warning will be opening for Halestorm this summer. They will also be on some festival shows this summer and fall. The next time they headline, it will most likely be in much larger venues. The Warning certainly has a bright future.
