A capacity crowd filled The Hall in Little Rock for The Plot In You, with support from Wind Walkers, Zero 9:36, and Currents.
The early arriving crowd was already packed close to the stage when Wind Walkers kicked off the night’s event. The Massachusetts band might have been the opener but they didn’t let that stop them from performing like they were there to headline the show. Vocalist Trevor Borg kept the energy high, crisscrossing the stage while encouraging the audience to participate. A specific set highlight was “Bodybag,” where Borg let the crowd know “We’re gonna have a dance party.” The band closed their set with the first song they ever wrote together, “Hangfire,” which drew the biggest reaction of the night.
Next up was Zero 9:36, who wowed the audience with his unique sound and personable stage presence. Zero mixes powerful rhymes with a surprising vocal range for a sound that is not only appealing but extremely unique. The set started with “Underneath” from 2024’s None of Us Are Getting Out, showcasing the varying tones that Zero ties into his music.Things kept up a frenetic clip until Zero declared, “Gotta play a sad song, it’s obligatory.” The following “I Felt It All” was the only time things slowed down throughout the blistering set. Other set highlights included “Chasing Shadows” (the number 35 song in the country right now) and “Adrenaline.” Zero closed the show with “The End,” which drew the biggest reaction of the night and had the whole crowd’s hands up moving in unison.
Little Rock favorites, Currents, took the stage next and things really kicked into high gear. The band was just at The Hall a few months ago supporting Beartooth, and their fans were ready for their return. The band came out strong, opening the set with “Never There” and going right into “Monsters,” both from 2020’s The Way It Ends. “The Death We Seek” brought a sea of crowd surfers to the stage, with no less than 15 making their way over the barrier.
Big moments came from the machine gun-like bridge on “My Disguise” and an enormous circle pit spawned during “Better Days.” Before starting “Living In Tragedy” from 2023’s The Death We Seek, vocalist Brian Wille prepped the crowd with “No more sleeping Little Rock, let’s go.” As things started to wind down, Wille praised the crowd, talking about their recent trip to Little Rock a few months ago (“(Little Rock) was a great time then, and it’s a great time now”). “Remember Me” closed things out, and the audience showed their full appreciation for a band that is becoming one of the city’s favorites.
It was time for the main attraction of the evening, The Plot In You. The band took the stage to their customary “Take Me Home, Country Roads” intro from John Denver, and The Hall went absolutely crazy. The energy carried right into the band’s opening song, the recently released “Don’t Look Away.” The Ohio quartet’s sound is extremely powerful, led by vocalist Landon Tewers’ oscillation between singing and screaming.
Tewers introduced “Paradigm” from 2021’s Swan Song with a challenge to all non-crowd surfers to “Get up here tonight.” Quite a few people seemed to take him up on that as the night progressed. The band was mostly all business, not taking a lot of time between songs and not a lot of small talk (with a few exceptions). This really kept things moving and kept the energy in the room high and fans engaged in the show. One exception of “small talk” was Tewers getting the crowd to sing “Happy Birthday” to bassist Ethan Yoder, which is always a fun bit at any show.
As the band left the stage at the end of the night, the Little Rock crowd put forth a thunderous chant of “one more song.” The band then returned, with Tewers stating, “We’ll play you two” and “We gotta come back to Little Rock more often, I think.” The band then closed out the night with “Disposable Fix” and “Feel Nothing.” During “Feel Nothing,” you could feel the crowd giving every bit of energy they had left, singing and screaming the refrain of “I feel nothing for you” over and over.
