Set It Off at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, TN

Singer Cody Carson truly put on a masterclass performance for Nashville fans. Set It Off has the perfect setlist for both new and old fans.

The first band Concrete Castles set the bar high for the night. Singer Audra Miller has a fantastic range to her voice that captivated the crowd that had gathered for the evening. The band certainly can go far as they treated Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl as if they were performing at a 50,000-capacity arena with such energy bouncing off the walls.

The song “Unpredictable” has a Disney feel and was greatly admired by the audience, with fans humming along with the lyrics. “You Won’t See Me Again” has the potential to be the breakup song of this fall. With heartbreaking lyrics, yet a strong “you can get through this” attitude to it – the song should be blasted through tears for a quick cheering up.

As Rain City Drive (formerly known as Slaves) took the stage, the venue started to fill up with fans of all ages. The crowd was giddy and the beer was flowing. Vocalist Matt McAndrew has a sensual voice captivating the fans as he started to sing “Waiting On You.” The band filmed a TikTok during the set, climbing on the barricade and making fans in the front row a part of it. This particular Tiktok can be found on Matt McAndrew’s page. This hyped the crowd up and the atmosphere was palpable. Drummer Zack Baker kept up impeccable energy throughout the set, acting like a hype man between all of the band members.

Oxymorrons were the third band of the night. Although they kept remarkable energy, it seemed as if vocalist Dave Bellevue did not have a great night. Fans screamed back the lyrics as they all jumped to the beat. Ashmy Bellevue on the other hand seemed to have a blast of a night, feeding off of the intensity of the crowd.

Throughout the set, the vocalists made sure to engage with the audience. They were talking about everything from the anime Cowboy Bebop to adult conversations about rent and work. It gave the fans a way to connect on a deeper level with the band, which is why the Oxymorrons’ fanbase is as loyal as it is.

Dave Bellevue said, “We don’t shine unless you put a light on us,” explaining how without their fans they would not be where they are today. While ending their set with the song “Justice,” fans pulled up their flashlights and lighters – literally shining lights at the band. To say Oxymorrons has captivated Nashville is an understatement.

The stage setup for Set It Off is extravagant with giant skeletons, creepy suits with old television cameras for heads, and dead plants on the drumhead. Set It Off has always had a flare for dramatics, and the stage setup was proof of that. After a long intro, Set It Off took the stage and the screams were deafening.

“Skeleton” from the album Elsewhere was the first song. The actual skeletons on stage had lit up hypnotizing eyes and jaws that moved. Singer Cody Carson picked up a rubber skeleton from a fan in the front row, swinging it around as he bounced across the stage.

During “Killer In The Mirror,” the singer climbed onto the barricade and then onto the crowd as he continued to sing. This drove the energy through the roof, everyone went wild. It was insanity at Brooklyn Bowl. Fans grasped and pushed to make sure Cody Carson didn’t fall, holding him high as he finished the song.

Before the song “Unopened Windows” started, the band walked off the stage leaving lead singer Cody Carson by himself with the keyboard. The song was a tribute to his late father. The song itself was incredibly powerful, but the raw pain in his voice made the audience gasp and feel the emotions. The band gradually joined in on the song which built up the tension, and the song ended with the lead singer playing a heartbreaking clarinet solo. The moment made the crowd go quiet to the point where you could hear a pin drop. “Unopened Windows” was a master performance by Cody Carson, it showed his multitude of talents with musical instruments and how a sole performance can move an audience to tears.

Once they started the intro to “Nightmare,” guitarist Zach DeWall swung his guitar around and gave the fans a show. He ate up the attention he got from the crowd.

As noted earlier in the show, lead singer Cody Carson possess a multitude of talents when it comes to instruments. During “Loose Cannon,” there was a saxophone solo by the singer. Then, once they started “Bad Guy,” drummer Maxx Danzinger and singer Cody Carson switched positions. With a ukulele in hand, the drummer shone bright and has a fantastic voice, wooing the fans with his dazzling smile.

The night came to an end, and Set It Off convinced the audience to help create a TikTok. Being a theatrical band, they made the audience turn around and pretend that the band was nonexistent. The younger fans in the audience were excited to participate. As the encore, they played “Wolf In Sheep Clothing” which had some technical issues, but it was solved with jokes and entertainment – which made it fun rather than awkward.

Set It Off puts on a phenomenal show, and the setlist was a great mix to lure in both new and old fans to the shows. It was an experience to witness the Welcome To The Elsewhere Tour, with fantastic openers that should not be missed. If you are a fan of Set It Off or have been curious to see their shows – go! All bands work hard to put a smile on your face, which was successful at the end of the night in Nashville.
