Sebastian Bach makes an appearance in Boston to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Skid Row’s Slave To The Grind album.
On what was probably the last warm day of the year in Boston, fans lined up outside of Big Night Live for a show featuring one of their favorite rockers of the late 80s and early 90s, Sebastian Bach formally of Skid Row. For this all-ages show, some fans brought their children to experience the energy and excitement of a hard-rocking concert performed by one of their idols.
Sebastian currently has the rock/punk band, Kaleido, opening for him on this tour. Kaleido hails from Detroit, MI, and has been on the scene since the early 2000s. Recipients of multiple awards, including being named Outstanding Alt/Indie/Punk Artist at the 2019 Detroit Music Awards. Christina’s powerful vocals along with Joey Fava on drums, Cody Morales on bass, and Drew Johnston on guitar create a musical experience that thrills their fans.
Upon walking into the venue, the screen on stage was lit up with Kaleido written in neon green. Promptly at 8pm, the lights darkened and the band members from Kaleido take the stage in silhouette from the screen behind them. Lead singer, Christina Chriss struts onto the stage with devil horns up and the rockin’ evening begins. First up is “Die Tryin” from their 2017 album, Experience. At the start of the song, bassist Cody Morales sustained a malfunction with his strap, his quick reflexes prevented the bass from falling to the ground. Upon completion of the song, he quickly ran backstage for a new strap and the show continued without a hitch. Christina grabbed the attention of the crowd as she moves explosively around the stage and thrashes her head causing her hair and chains to fly through the air. They played all the songs from their 2019 EP NO RLY…IM FINE, including “Pretending” and “Blood.” The set ended with their single, “Panic in a Pandemic.”
The screen on stage changed to read Sebastian Bach. The excitement for this long-awaited show was palpable in the air. The lights went down as the band members made their way onto the stage with the crowd cheering, screaming, and clapping. Sebastian Bach came running out with his signature long hair streaming behind him and launched right into the title track of Slave to the Grind. Fists pumping in the air, heads banging, and screaming! They then went right into “The Threat.” Nostalgia was in full swing for this show with a setlist that includes the entirety of the Slave to the Grind album, with a few other tunes thrown in because otherwise, as Sebastian said, “the show would only be about 48 minutes long.”Sebastian then spoke to the crowd, waving at everyone and asking how everyone has been. He then got the crowd to chant, “F**k 2020” and “F**k COVID” before shouting, “Rock and Roll is back!” He went on to perform “Quicksand Jesus,” with everyone shouting with excitement.
Sebastian put on a great show for his fans. His vocals were amazing, and he continues to have a ton of energy on stage. Among the songs played were the fan favorites “Wasted Time” and “I Remember You.” When “18 and Life” started, Sebastian held the mic out towards the crowd for them to sing the first verse of the song.
As the set was coming to an end, Sebastian started pointing to a tattoo on his right arm, tapping it he yelled “Youth Gone Wild!” During the song, Sebastian noticed a child in the front row of the venue and, with the consent of his parents, brought the child up on stage. He sang a song with the band and got onto the shoulders of the rock icon. A memory to last a lifetime for the boy and his family. The last song of the night, aptly, was “Get the F**k Out.” The crowd went wild.
