Saint Motel’s performance at Stubb’s Amphitheater in Austin, TX, captivated the crowd with their indie-pop sound and energizing stage presence.
Saint Motel is an indie band from Los Angeles. The group is made up of A.J. Jackson (vocals/guitar/piano), Aaron Sharp (guitar), Greg Erwin (drums), and Dak Lerdamornpong (bass). Their first full-length album was debuted in 2012, Voyeur. The band grew an audience after the release of their EP My Type in 2014, which includes tracks such as “My Type” and “Cold Cold Man.” In February 2025, the group released their fourth full-length album, Saint Motel & the Symphony in the Sky.
Opening for them on their The Symphony in the Sky Tour, was Texas native, Angel White. Angel White is from a small town just outside of Fort Worth, TX. The artist is known for his unique blend of country and soul. The day before the concert in Austin, Angel released GHOST OF THE WEST: THE ALBUM. At exactly 8 PM, Angel and his band, who he introduced as The Guardians, opened the set with his song “RED BLANKET.” He and his band played other songs from the new album, such as “2733” and “OUTLAW.” His smooth southern voice charmed the crowd. He closed his set with “DOWN BY THE RIVER.”
Saint Motel began their set with the single “Puzzle Pieces,” from Voyeur. As the name of the tour and new album is The Symphony in the Sky, they made sure to have orchestration for their live performance. Each track was accompanied by a string quartet. The four-member band played new songs like “Get It at Home” and “Life’s a Gas,” as well as older songs such as “Sisters” and “A Good Song Never Dies” from The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Jackson and his conduction baton guided the band and the crowd through all the songs. Before “Move,” the audience eagerly chanted “Move!” until the beat finally dropped and the song began. They played a few more songs until they eventually got to “Cold Cold Man” from their EP My Type. After “Cold Cold Man,” the band left the stage and waited for the chants of encore. While waiting, an automated recording directed the fans to join in an interactive activity. It ordered them to put their flashlights up and do as the recording said. For the next few minutes, the crowd was unified in waving their lights according to the automated instructions. The band returned for a four-song encore. They played “A Bluer Blue” and fan favorite “Sweet Talk” from saintmotelevision. Ultimately, they closed their set with “My Type.” Luckily, this was only the beginning of Saint Motel’s tour. They will continue touring around North America up until May 2025.
