Orgy make a Friday night stop in Las Vegas with The Crowned and Brand of Julez for their Bring Your Army Tour.
The Beauty Bar is a unique venue in Las Vegas, it has the vibe of a backyard party and on this Friday night, the crowd is filling the space to see three great bands. The Crowned from Austin Texas kicks off the night with their metal. The band put on an energetic but short set that the crowd really enjoys. They are unique in the fact that their drummer is their singer which is not something frequently seen. After their set, they spend time hanging with the crowd and selling merchandise which along with their intense set is sure to gather them some new fans tonight.
Brand of Julez takes the stage next and judging from the amount of their merchandise the crowd is wearing they already have a lot of fans in Las Vegas. From the Bronx, this band delivers what you would expect from a New York metal band. They walk calmly onto the stage but that is where the calmness ends as they explode with energy, their faces showing the intensity of their music. The music is heavy and fast and the band is clearly enjoying playing. They don’t mess around with a lot of extra talking as they want to deliver as many songs as possible. Their set really excites the crowd but songs like “Falling Up,” and “Monkey” really get the crowd going. The end of their set is capped off with The Crowned joining them on stage. This collaborative party feel will continue through the night.
It is now time for Orgy and as the outdoor space has gotten more crowded the heat is rising. If you have seen Orgy before you know they are an energetic band and this stage almost cannot contain them. Singer Jay Gordon is all over the stage and getting in the face of the fans while guitarist Carlton Boost is climbing all over his side respectively. The energy is infectious. After two songs a round of drinks appears on the stage from the grateful fans that the band indulges in. There are two new members of Orgy since the last time they played Vegas, a guitarist and a drummer, they are also introduced to the crowd at this time. Along with this they also have new music, much of which is highlighted tonight. While the focus is on the newer music they are sure to play crowd favorites like “G Face,” “Talk Sick” and “Suck It.”
There does seem to be a slight issue with the vocal during the performance. At times it is just not loud and clear, but it is hard to tell if that is an issue with the mix or something technical, but that does not matter to the crowd, they are not enjoying the show any less due to it. After an hour-long set, it is time for “Blue Monday” to close the show. Gordon enters the crowd, moving through it getting various people to sing along while all the members of The Crowned and Brand of Julez join Orgy on the stage. It is amazing to see them all fit on this stage, but it shows that continued collaborative party feeling that we got a taste of earlier that this tour seems to be about.
These three bands delivered an amazing night of music. The only disappointment was the absence of Motograter that did not make the show despite being on the bill. Even minus them the crowd definitely enjoyed the evening.
