Myles Kennedy amazes an enthusiastic crowd on The Art of Letting Go Tour at The Machine Shop joined by Tim Montana and Sons of Silver.
Sons of Silver from Los Angeles get the show started with a great set of rock, starting with the track “Read ‘Em Their Rights.” This quintet is led by vocalist and guitarist Pete Argyropoulos and includes guitarist Kevin Haaland, bassist Adam Kury, drummer Marc Slutsky, and keyboardist Brina Kabler. Their set is a mix of straight-ahead rockers and some slower, more melodic songs. A few, like the lead-off track, “Tell Me This,” and “Who’s Going to Stop Us,” have an alternative rock vibe. Most of the set comes from their recent full-length album called Runaway Emotions. The sold-out crowd shows their appreciation after every song.
Next up is Tim Montana who hits the stage and launches into “Get You Some.” Tim’s set may be short, but it is full of raw energy and is mostly comprised of songs from his Savage album including “Ain’t Comin’ Down,” “Die Today,” “Shut Me Out,” “Death Row,” “Ashes,” and the title track “Savage.” He does throw in one older song called “Mostly Stoned” and does a bluesy bit of 2Pac’s hit “California Love” along with some rapping. His music blends elements of Southern rock, country, and even some grunge. Tim had a big year in 2024 getting airplay on SiriusXM Octane in addition to country stations, as well as touring with the likes of Staind, Seether, Skillet, Bush, and Jerry Cantrell, and playing at some major festivals. The closer,” Devil You Know,” got plenty of airplay and from the crowd’s reaction it seems many here tonight know it well. Tim thanks them before leaving the stage to loud cheers. The fans erupt with cheers when the lights dim, and Myles Kennedy takes the stage. He kicks off his set with the title track of his latest release, “The Art of Letting Go,” and follows it up with the rapid-paced banger “Nothing More to Gain” which has drummer Zia Uddin pounding the skins hard. Providing the groove on the bass is Tim Tournier, who happens to also be Myles’ manager. After “Devil on the Wall,” “A Thousand Words,” and “Mr. Downside,” they play “Blind Faith.” It has a slow start but builds up and has Myles nailing some highs with his vocals. “Behind the Veil” is certainly a highlight of the set with a nearly four-minute guitar jam that has the fans cheering and wanting more.Myles is one of the busiest artists in rock music putting out three solo albums, seven albums with Alter Bridge, and four albums with Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, and previously had two albums with The Mayfield Four. In addition to being a great songwriter and singer, Myles is a highly accomplished and underrated guitarist. He pulls songs from his three solo albums tonight along with an acoustic take on the Alter Bridge song “Lover.” The fans are in awe of the next song, the haunting “Love Can Only Heal,” which really shows off Myles’ talents. The song starts slow and then takes off at the end with soaring guitar and thunderous drums and bass. It is one of the highlights of the set. The fans let out deafening cheers and applause while putting their horns up in the air.
Following “Miss You When You’re Gone,” he tells a funny story about getting the inspiration for the next song while mowing the lawn and mentions doing the dishes is also when he gets ideas for songs. This gets some laughs from the audience. The band then launches into “Year of the Tiger” which is driven by a cool guitar riff and catchy drum beat with lots of toms. “Get Along” and “In Stride” wind down the set, with the latter featuring a lot of slide action on the guitar. Myles also leads the crowd in overhead clapping and some repeat after me singing of a series of “woah,” “yeah yeah,” “oh oh oh,” and variations of them. The crowd loves it! They wrap it up with “Say What You Will” which has Myles dancing around the stage while jamming.
What a great night of rock music by all three bands. Be sure to catch this tour when it comes to a nearby city.
Kudos to The Machine Shop who always has awesome sound and lighting despite the smaller size of their venue. Myles even calls them out during the set as one of his favorite places to play.
