Emo’s in Austin buzzed with energy as lovelytheband and Mod Sun took the stage for a co-headlining show that thrilled fans with indie-pop anthems.
The night started at 7 PM with No Love For The Middle Child. No Love is an indie alternative artist from Philadelphia. The now LA-based artist is a classically trained cellist and can play seven instruments in total. He also has produced music for artists such as Meek Mill, Grandson, and Jessie Reyez. Performing with No Love are musicians Sam Price from lovelytheband and Kyle McGrail performing with Mod Sun. Both were on drums. No Love performed his hits “February” and “No Sleep,” both singles from 2020. During one of his songs, naturally, he had to show off his cello talent by performing a solo. Toward the end of the set, he sang a cover of Blink 182’s “I Miss You” which fans loved.
After No Love for the Middle Child, singer, Huddy took to the stage to warm up the crowd. Huddy, formerly known as Lil Huddy, is an actor and social media personality. He is known for popularizing the “e-boy” subculture from 2019 to 2020. He is also known as one of the co-founders of the infamous TikTok Hype House. In 2021, he released his debut single “21st Century Vampire” and soon after released his second “The Eulogy of You and Me,” which was co-written and produced with Blink 182’s Travis Barker. During his set, he performed songs such as “Partycrasher” and “IDC” from his debut album Teenage Heartbreak (2021). He also performed an unreleased song, which he told the crowd was titled “The One.”
After Huddy, co-headliner artist Mod Sun brought high energy to the stage. Mod Sun is an American songwriter/rapper who has been making music for the last two decades. In his first years as a musician, he played in a band called Sideline Heroes. It wasn’t until 2010 that he released his first solo project, an EP called The Hippy Hop. In 2020, the artist transitioned from hip-hop to pop-punk. The transition was extremely graceful and only caused his career to grow.
He opened his set with “Bones” from his album Internet Killed the Rockstar. As the night went on the crowd didn’t get tired, they only got more enthusiastic the longer Mod Sun’s set continued. Mid-set, Mod Sun hushed the crowd to ask an audience member how old the child they brought to the concert was. The baby was two months old, and they confirmed this was the baby’s first concert. During his set, he played a cover of Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris,” and then performed an unreleased song called “The Shakes.” Then he closed with his track “Karma” also from Internet Killed the Rockstar.
lovelytheband is an American rock band from Los Angeles. The band is made up of three members: Mitchy Collins (vocals/guitar), Jordan Greenwald (guitar), and Sam Price (drums). The band blew up in 2017 after their single “Broken” earned over three million streams on Spotify. The song charted on several Billboard charts, including Alternative Songs and Rock Airplay. A year later, they released their debut album Finding It Hard to Smile. Since then, they have released three more full-length albums. At about 9:45 PM, the trio finally made their way out onto the stage. They opened their set with “what have i been missing,” a new song from their latest self-titled album release. They also played 2018 throwbacks like “These Are My Friends” and “Make You Feel Pretty.” During “buzz cut” from conversations with myself about you, the audience went wild. As the night came to an end they, of course, had to close with the song that catapulted their success, “Broken.”
