On one of Seattle’s first sunny evenings of the year, Lewis Capaldi and opener Medium Build enchanted the audience at WAMU theater in Seattle, Washington.
The night was filled with emotions and laughter and left a lasting impression on everyone present. If you are a fan of heartfelt, soulful music, and a bit of a laugh then you need to check out a Lewis Capaldi show.
The night started with opener Medium Build. This Alaska-bred alternative rock band brought a high-energy performance with elements of electronic sounds. Their music was a great fit for Capaldi’s fans, with songs that infuse sadness and hope with catchy melodies. Their songs “Be Your Boy” and “Never Learned to Dance” were crowd favorites and truly had the audience moving. Frontman Nick Carpenter commented that the band had never played to an audience that large before and luckily they wouldn’t forget who they were that evening because their name was on a giant sign above the stage.
Following an electric opening set, Lewis Capaldi took the stage amid thunderous cheers from the audience. Dressed in a casual black sweatshirt and jeans combo, Capaldi instantly had the crowd in the palm of his hand. He opened the show with “Forget Me,” after a long instrumental intro. Capaldi’s distinctive voice and raw emotions carried the audience through his hit songs, such as “Lost on You,” “Bruises” and “Hold Me While You Wait.” At the beginning of the set, Capaldi asked fans for a show of hands for who there was in a relationship versus who was single. He said, “I’m sorry to you relationship people out there because I don’t have very many songs for you tonight.”Capaldi did not just impress with his singing; the self-proclaimed “Scottish Beyonce” also kept the audience laughing with his incredibly timed, witty banter. He shared anecdotes about writing his songs and made jokes about his Scottish accent, which drew even louder cheers from the audience. Between “Fade” and “Before You Go,” Capaldi told fans he needed absolute silence and delayed the start of the song until all the fans had quieted. Inevitably, fans still yelled out and Lewis joked that he would have them removed.
The concert was truly a full-body experience, with Capaldi’s emotional lyrics, the breathtaking lighting, and graphic design that accompanied his songs. Songs like “Before You Go” had the audience swaying in time with the music, and singing along while “Wish You The Best” brought tears to many eyes.
Perhaps the most memorable moment of the night was the very end when Capaldi asked the audience to sing along to “Someone You Loved.” Thousands of fans joined in, creating a sound that filled the entire theater. It was a magical moment that showed the power of Capaldi’s music and the love his fans have for him.
