Larkin Poe at Thalia Hall in Chicago, IL

Larkin Poe performed at a sold-out Thalia Hall as they brought the Blood Harmony 2023 World Tour to the Windy City.

To say Larkin Poe came out swinging is putting it mildly! Any cobwebs were officially blown away as they took to the stage and ripped into “Strike Gold.” The roof was officially blown off the joint by the second song, “Kick The Blues.” If there was a way to kick off a show, this was certainly it. Rebecca and Megan Lovell meant business and the Chicago crowd lapped up every moment of it!

Born and raised in Georgia, and now living in Nashville, the sisters have their own brand of southern rock, blues, and roots with a modern twist. The two combined are certainly a force to be reckoned with. Megan has rightfully earned herself the moniker “The Slide Queen.” There is not enough slide in modern-day music and Megan is doing her best to keep that flag flying. Together the two provide some beautiful harmonies. Rebecca has an unbelievable voice with a bluesy grit that is beyond her youthful years. Add to the mix some impressive guitar slinging and you can see why they are selling out venues.

The majority of the set was comprised of songs from their latest album, Blood Harmony. An impressive nine songs to be exact, including “Bad Spell,” “Might As Well Be Me,” and “Southern Comfort.” The pair are starting to compile quite a back catalog to call on and were sure to include some of their older material such as their cover of Son House’s “Preachin’ Blues” and “Wanted Woman/ AC/DC” from Peach as well as “Blue Ridge Mountains” and “Beach Blonde Bottle Blues” from Venom & Faith.

The last time Loud Hailer caught Larkin Poe performing live was at the Chicago Blues Festival in 2019. It’s impressive to see the progress they have made in this short amount of time. To say they came out on the stage at Thalia Hall and owned it is an understatement. The atmosphere was electric from beginning to end.

The duo has regularly released new music and in between recording, they have been touring relentlessly. The hard work is clearly paying off as the venues are getting bigger and they’re selling out numerous shows. The future is bright for this pair, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.

There are only a few dates left on this tour before they head over to Australia and New Zealand. But fear not, they will be back Stateside with a handful of dates scheduled in May and June. Get yourself to these shows, it may be your last time to get more up close and personal as the venues are only going to get bigger from now on.
