Jukebox the Ghost at Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH

Fans of all ages greeted Jukebox the Ghost at Newport Music Hall for another night of their I Got a Tour.

To start the night, band Wildermiss took the stage and hit their set off on an ethereal note. Wildermiss had an unspoken cool about them with their indie rock setlist. Wildermiss is made up of singer Emma Cole who also plays synth, Joshua Hester who plays guitar, and Caleb Thoemke on drums. Originally, the ensemble is from Denver but now have relocated to Nashville. During their set, they said that they’ve spent a lot of time in Columbus recently and really enjoy playing shows in the area. They played their hits, “Supermagical,” “New Year’s,” “I’m Okay,” “Choice,” “Decay,” “Wi-Fi,” “This Isn’t How the Story Ends,” and “Italy.” Since Daisy Jones and the Six is so popular right now, it has to be said that Emma Cole definitely gives Daisy Jones a run for her money! Their latest EP is titled New Year’s and the band has plans to release a full LP later this year so be on the lookout.

Taking the stage next was Jukebox the Ghost and fans of all ages were eagerly awaiting their debut. Two fans had brought their children to the concert, and it so happened to be their youngest’s first-ever concert. According to the band’s website, they have performed over 1,000 shows, ranging from headlining tours, to large festivals like Bonnaroo, and even opening for The Late Show. It comes as no surprise that Jukebox the Ghost put on an amazing show here in Columbus. The band that’s been together for over 17 years now is composed of Ben Thornewill (piano/vocals), Tommy Siegel (guitar/bass/vocals), and Jesse Kristin (vocals/drums).

If you haven’t listened to Jukebox the Ghost, the band has an incredibly upbeat and pop sound. Their sound is reminiscent and draws inspiration from Queen. Their show was packed full of songs including “Jumpstarted,” “Schizophrenia,” “Girl,” “Under My Skin,” “Fred Astaire” and “Everybody’s Lonely.” Their encore comprised of “Costume,” “You Make My Dreams,”  and “Cheers!.” It was an impressive 21-song set. Jukebox the Ghost has an expansive list of songs stretching out over six albums. Of course, the band made sure to feature several new songs from their latest album Cheers.

One of the most notable moments from the night was during “Million Dollar Bills” when Thornewill left the grand piano and strapped on the keys. Fans seemed to really love this and the lyrics, “Gotta give the people what they want when they want it” is definitely applicable here.

Jukebox the Ghost put on an amazing show that was full of laughs and light-heartedness. It’s apparent that all three members are incredibly talented musicians.
