Austin fans got to experience Jenny Lewis’ magical concert at The Moody Theater where her captivating performance left everyone spellbound.
American singer-songwriter, Jenny Lewis grew up in the music scene with both parents being musicians. As a child, Lewis was an actress and appeared in small roles in various TV shows. It wasn’t until the late ‘90s that Lewis and a friend started a band called Rilo Kiley. They released four albums until they disbanded. During that time, Lewis also recorded solo projects. In 2023, she released her latest solo album, Joy’All. She just kicked off the 2024 leg of her Joy’All Ball Tour in San Diego, CA, and Tempe, AZ before making her way to Texas.
Before headliner Jenny Lewis took the stage, solo guitarist Hayden Pedigo blew the audience away with his insane guitar talent. Hayden prefaced to the crowd he was nervous and used to get really bad stage fright. He also warned the crowd that during most of his songs, there would be large pauses so he would let them know when he was finished so they knew when to clap. Despite his warning, the audience began to applaud him mid-pause which made him laugh. During his performance, the audience was so quiet and respectful that you could hear a pin drop. He played songs such as “Rained Like Hell” and “The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored.” He also performed the “Main Theme” of the movie Brokeback Mountain and transitioned into his song “Elsewhere.”
It wasn’t until 9:15 pm that the lights went down and Jenny Lewis made her entrance onto the stage. Her dynamic presence instantly captured the audience’s attention. She opened with “The Big Guns,” a song she recorded with The Watson Twins. She also played “Psychos” from her latest album. During one of her songs, she performed on a platform that blew air up onto her. At that moment, she genuinely looked like the rockstar she was born to be.There aren’t many words to describe a Jenny Lewis concert, but the closest we can get is it felt like watching a good friend perform in a bar with all of your friends cheering in the crowd. Despite there being so many people there, it felt very intimate. As we neared the end of the set, she performed a cover of Girls’ “Lust for Life.” During “See Fernando,” giant red and white balloons were released into the crowd. Before the crowd knew it, Jenny and her band were leaving the stage.
For encore, they performed three songs. “Love Feel” and “Just One of the Guys” were two of them. Interestingly enough, the music video for “Just One of the Guys” features stars such as Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart, and Brie Larson all directed by Miss Lewis. She ended the night with her 2008 track “Acid Tongue.” Don’t miss the chance to witness her captivating performance if she comes to a city near you. She’ll be sure to mesmerize you with her timeless tunes.
