Incubus at The Criterion in Oklahoma City, OK

Incubus delivers a captivating performance to eager fans in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City in the midst of their solo tour.

Fans excitedly pile into The Criterion for a night of Incubus, hoping to hear their favorite songs from the band’s extensive catalog. Oklahoma City is very fortunate to be on this short-run tour, limited to only six dates. This tour is unique in that there are no opening bands, creating a more intimate concert experience for their loyal fan base.

As the clock ticks down for the performance to begin, the ground floor is nearly filled to capacity and the balcony is lined with fans along the rails. Moments before the lights dim, Incubus’ crew guides about ten fans to platforms built on the side of the stage for a VIP experience which Incubus is offering on this tour. This VIP experience includes a special opportunity to use a new technology, called MIXhalo, that Incubus invented. To use this technology, you bring your own headphones and access an app that allows you to hear a crystal-clear front-of-house mix directly through your headphones. You can directly control each band member’s volume levels from your app to curate your own listening experience. Essentially, MIXhalo functions as in-ear monitors for fans.

Incubus leads the night with “Privilege” from Make Yourself, “Glitterbomb” from their latest album 8, and “Anna Molly” from Light Grenades. An entranced crowd gathers closer to the stage, singing along to every word. The passion that frontman, Brandon Boyd, exhibits as he delivers each poetic verse is powerful. Guitarist Mike Einziger  leads the intro riff to the fourth song of the evening, “Megalomaniac” from A Crow Left of the Murder, which sends the crowd into an animated frenzy.

Throughout the night, Incubus played many popular crowd favorites as well as many of their more obscure songs. Being the only band on the bill allowed them to dive into many of their deep cuts. This rock show was unlike many others because instead of the crowd getting rowdy, the crowd enjoyed a more introspective and thought-provoking experience. This performance offered an astonishing light show, as well as projections featuring the various band members throughout the set, making it an enjoyable experience for anyone viewing from afar. At one point, a fan screams “I love you,” to which Boyd replies, “I love you too, I don’t know you but it’s a cosmic love.” Cosmic love describes perfectly the energy that could be felt throughout the entire venue. Cosmic love also beautifully encapsulates the energy that Incubus puts into the world with their uplifting lyrics and soulful music.

Incubus rounded the night off with their hit “Drive” from Make Yourself. Oklahoma’s love for Incubus was apparent, as every fan in the room was singing along or had their phone out recording. As Incubus exits the stage, the crowd erupts with thunderous stomps and cheers that rattle the entire venue. Incubus returns to the stage for their encore with “On Without Me” from Trust Fall and “Warning” from Morning View. Fans relish in this unforgettable, heartfelt evening with Incubus.

Incubus will be touring the US this summer with Sublime with Rome and The Aquadolls. The tour starts early July and ends early September. They will be featuring their MIXhalo technology on their upcoming tour for VIP ticket holders to experience. This is a tour that Incubus fans will not want to miss.
