Greta Van Fleet at Moody Center in Austin, TX

Fans experienced the electrifying energy of Greta Van Fleet live at Austin, Texas’ Moody Center on their Starcatcher World Tour.

The first opener of the night was the duo Mirador. Consisting of Ida Mae’s Chris Turpin and Greta Van Fleet’s Jake Kiszka, they blew the crowd away. Despite not having a song released, fans at the barricade seemed to already know the words. A setlist a fan got after the show revealed that they played songs “Reviving Blade” and “Skyway Drifter.” All of the songs showcased the team’s beautiful talent, each taking turn for a guitar solo.

After the moody guitars from Mirador,  New York-based band Geese took the stage next. The band is made up of Cameron Winter (vocals), Em Green (guitar), Dominic DiGesu (bass), Max Bassin (drums), and touring with the crew on keys and keytar is Sam Revaz. In October of 2023, Geese released a new EP titled 4D Country. From it, they played the song “Space Race.” Mid-set, Winter told the audience that they loved Austin and he wanted to take a second to apologize for throwing up in one of their Burger King’s in 2022 at SXSW. The post-punk rock band was amazing. They kept the crowd upbeat and put on an incredible show.

As the lights dimmed, the suspense grew. Greta Van Fleet‘s iconic curtain hung hiding the stage behind as the crowd cheered enthusiastically. When the curtain fell, a wave of excitement carried through the crowd, screaming and cheering coming from every mouth in the arena. Starting strong, the guys of Greta Van Fleet opened with “The Falling Sky” from their latest album Starcatcher. All dressed in coordinating red outfits, Josh wore a red jumpsuit that fans would recognize from his Austin City Limits performance back in 2021. After about the third song, Josh left and came back onto the stage in a new outfit, which would be the first of many outfit changes of the night.

Interestingly, they began their single “Meet the Master” with The Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood” intro. They also played older songs such as “Heat Above” from The Battle at Garden’s Gate and “Highway Tunes” from their debut album From the Fires. Towards the end of “Highway Tunes,” they transitioned into “That’s All Right” originally sung by Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup. After, Danny took it away on the drums for his nearly 10-minute solo. He took his bow and the lights were cut only to shine again on a second stage located at the back of the arena.

There, Sammy was seated at the keys. The rest of the members joined him on the small stage, with Jake and Danny on guitar and mandolin. They played a quick three-song acoustic set, including “Waited All Your Life” and “Black Smoke Rising.” When they returned to the main stage, Josh introduced “The Archer” as his personal diva song. For their encore, they played three more songs and iconically closed with “Farewell For Now.”
