Father John Misty visited The Factory in Dallas and shared a beautiful night of melodious sound with concert-goers in attendance.
Indie folk artist Father John Misty delighted the residents of Dallas with his varied range of music styles at The Factory in Deep Ellum. Josh Tillman, the man behind the infamous name, has been recording music since 2004. Many will recognize him from the time he spent as drummer for folk-rock band Fleet Foxes. It wasn’t until 2012 that Tillman took up the stage name Father John Misty and released his first album under that name, Fear Fun. It wasn’t until his album I Love You, Honeybear that Tillman gained attention. Tillman is touring his latest album release Chloë and the Next 20th Century, which was dropped in April of this year.
Supporting Father John Misty, was singer, model, actress, and UK’s it-girl, Suki Waterhouse. Waterhouse released her alt/indie debut album I Can’t Let Go earlier this year but has been making music since 2016. Waterhouse opened the show with the first single of her record “Moves.” She then moved on to two other songs from the album, “Bullsh*t On The Internet” and “Devil I Know.” In between the two songs, Suki introduced herself to which the crowd replied, “Of course, we know who you are!” To that, Waterhouse humbly blushed and thanked them. Before closing the show Waterhouse performed an unreleased song that she has been teasing on her social media titled “Nostalgia.” She then closed with her 2017 single “Good Looking,” which recently went viral on TikTok and peaked at #1 on Spotify’s Viral USA Chart.
To continue on the night, Father John Misty sauntered onto the stage. He immediately jumped into the second single from his latest album, “Q4.” He then transitioned into his first single from his debut album under his stage name, “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” from the album Fear Fun. Early on, he also played his jazz song “Chloë” and if an audience member didn’t already love that song enough, hearing it live definitely could have persuaded most. Another single from Fear Fun, titled “Nancy From Now On” was performed and seemed to have been a hit with the crowd.Tillman made sure to talk to the audience consistently throughout the show. During one of his pauses in between songs, a fan shouted “Have my babies.” He responded, “Normally, I have more requirements than attending one of my shows if I want to have babies with someone.” He then asked how many the person would like and after the crowd member said “5 or 6,” Tillman joked that he didn’t know if he was up for that challenge. Mid-set, Father John performed “I’m Writing a Novel” and a few women took to their southern roots and began to line dance in the back of the pit.
Father John Misty sang quite a few more songs before closing with the title track from his sophomore album I Love You, Honeybear, only to return to the stage for an encore and perform five more songs. He officially closed the night with “Date Night” from the 2018 release God’s Favorite Customer.
