Up-and-coming rock band Eva Under Fire delivers an energetic set for hometown fans at District 142 with support from Boys of Fall and Fatal Conceit.
Fatal Conceit gets the evening off to a heavy start, leading off with “This Machine.” After “Devil’s Little Helper” and “I Rise,” they play their new song “Fracture.” James Balina on drums and Katie Puga on bass lay down a heavy bottom end, while Timothy Martuch and Joe Blake are tearing it up together on guitars. Timothy also provides the lead vocals. They have the crowd cheering and putting up their horns. Other songs in their set include “Opportunity Lost” and “Nightmare.” They close it out set with a killer cover of the Rage Against the Machine classic, “Killing in The Name.” They have the sold-out crowd pumped up early for what is going to be a great night of live music.
Boys of Fall keep it rocking with a great set of alternative rock and pop-punk music. These guys also throw in some metal elements with the harsh vocals and screams of Mike Martenson. They play a 14-song set tonight that pulls from four of their albums from the 2016 release Thank You & Goodbye to their 2024 self-titled album, along with the single “Looking on The Bright Side.” They lead with new songs “Stray” and “Dreams” before following up with “Midnight.” Guest drummer Myles Clayborne is crushing the drums, especially during “Heavy Hearts”. The crowd shows their appreciation with loud cheers.“Almost Happy” features the vocals of guitarist Jake Cemer at the beginning, as well as when the vocals soar toward the middle of the song. It also has bassist Eli Sleeker bouncing, and guitarist Dan Quigley tearing it up and often headbanging. They are highly active with a great stage presence. After “Distance” and “Novocaine,” they get the crowd bouncing during “Bad Company” which has a catchy bass groove. “Arson” and “Defamation” get the crowd fired up as a mosh pit breaks out on the floor. They start winding it down with “Empty,” “No Good For Me,” and “Looking on the Bright Side.” They wrap it up with “It’s Always Sunny in Arkadelphia” which cranks up the crowd energy with a circle pit and even a crowd surfer. What a great way to set the stage for the headliner to come.
The crowd is growing anxious for up-and-coming rock band Eva Under Fire to hit the stage. They are no strangers to the crowd tonight, many who have been following this Detroit-based band from the beginning. They have been getting national attention with songs from their album Love, Drugs & Misery, along with tours and spots on festivals like Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville, and even on the Shiprocked cruise. Several fans got a special treat during a VIP meet and greet before the show where the band previewed some of the songs from their next album. Based on the reactions, it should be a banger and help take them to the next level.Taking the stage to loud cheers, they kick it off with the hard-hitting “Comatose.” Eva Marie (Amanda Lyberg) is the focal point of the band during live shows with her stage presence. She has an awesome voice that handles the soft ballads to the metal screams, and she rarely stands still, often keeping the fans engaged. While Eva is the focal point, the rest of the band is just as important to their sound, with Chris Slapnick and Rob Lyberg on guitars, Ed Gawlick on bass, and Dave Miller II on drums who is pounding the skins hard tonight. Rob and Chris complement each other well and both deliver backup vocals. After “Death of Me,” they play “Ghost” which really shows off Eva’s vocals. It may be more of a ballad, but it still hits hard. They play a new song, “Villainous” and then get the crowd waving their arms during “Heroin(e).” The crowd is loving it!
“Another Shot to the Heart” is a straight-ahead rocker that keeps the fans amped up. The next song gets some huge cheers from the opening notes as they launch into the Black Sabbath song “War Pigs.” This song shows off the whole band’s talents as they kill it, especially the guitarists. After “Devil in Disguise,” they crank it way up with the fast-paced new song “Metamorph,” which has rapid-fire beats and heavy bass. Giving the fans a breather, they play the emotional ballad, “The Strong.” The crowd puts up their lights and cell phone lights and waves their arms. It features a great solo by Rob. After “Drift,” Eva leads the crowd in clapping on the rocker “I Will Fight.” They dig back into their catalog to play “Until Forever” from their 2015 album Anchors.
“Coming for Blood” has a bluesy rock riff and features Chris doing a bit of rapping. Showing off their talents again is a great cover and setlist staple for the last few tours, the Journey hit “Separate Ways.” Along with Eva doing great justice to the vocals, it also has Rob playing the leads with precision and has the fans singing along. “My Own Name” is a new song that Eva says is about fake friends. The crowd seems to love these new songs based on their cheering. Before “Unstoppable,” Eva tells the crowd, “Give me everything you’ve got.” Toward the end they transition into a bit of Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” with Eva leading the overhead clapping. They wrap it up with their radio hit “Blow” which includes them bringing a fan on stage to join Eva on vocals. The crowd gives a loud round of applause as the band exits the stage. It is yet another great set by this emerging band. The sky is the limit if they keep putting out these catchy and rocking songs, and great live shows.
