Declan McKenna made a stop at The Studio at The Factory in Dallas to play some of his songs from the 2020 released album, Zeros.
The North London singer-songwriter, Declan McKenna visited Dallas, TX. McKenna finally made it over to North America to tour his 2020 album, Zeros. While on tour, he hit a few locations in California, Chicago, and Nashville before coming to Texas for the final three shows of the tour. Annie DiRusso accompanied him for most of the shows but was absent for their Dallas appearance. Declan’s touring band is made up of Nathan Cox (keys), Isabel Torres (guitar/vocals), Gabrielle King (drums), and William Bishop (bass).
Because Annie DiRusso couldn’t be there, McKenna took it into his own hands (or rather his so-called cousin Shamus’) to play a DJ set for the audience. He sported a black robe and a cowboy hat. During his 30-minute slot, he played OutKast, ABBA, and The Beatles. At about 9 PM, Declan returned to the stage along with the rest of his band to perform his regular set. He opened with the song “Beautiful Faces” from the album Zero. He followed that with two other songs from the same album, “Rapture” and “Sagittarius A*.” To slow the show down, Declan performed an acoustic version of his song, “Make Me Your Queen,” from his first album, the 2017 release What Do You Think About the Car?
As he got closer to the end of the set, he told the crowd he was going to play something a little more “unorthodox” and started to strum the chords of Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me,” to which fans responded overtly with enthusiasm. He played a few more songs from his first album before playing two more songs from his sophomore album, “You Better Believe!!!” and “Be An Astronaut.” While exiting the stage, the crowd immediately began chanting for an encore. McKenna made sure not to disappoint.
For Mckenna’s six-song encore, he started with the slow-paced “Daniel, You’re Still a Child,” but then picked up the pace with “Why Do You Feel So Down?” and “Paracetamol.” He then played the final track from Zeros, “Eventually, Darling,” before closing with “Brazil,” which was originally released as a single in 2015 before being added to his first album, and the 2019 single “British Bombs.” This song targets the hypocrisy of the British government’s involvement in gun trade and weapon conventions. In the end, McKenna smashed his guitar that had an illustration of the Union Jack.
As of now, he has no other shows lined up for the near future, but, knowing his history, it won’t be long before he’s back on tour.
