Dayglow at Scoot Inn in Austin, TX

Dayglow lit up Scoot Inn in Austin, delivering a feel-good set and hometown charm that had the crowd dancing all night.

Sloan Struble, more famously known as Dayglow, is an indie singer, songwriter, and producer. From a small town outside Fort Worth, Texas, he didn’t have to travel far from his hometown to perform at the Historic Scoot Inn. Dayglow received commercial success with his 2018 debut album Fuzzybrain. The singles “Can I Call You Tonight?” and “Run The World!!” grew in popularity on TikTok and Spotify, giving him a name in the industry. In September, Dayglow released his fourth album, self-titled Dayglow. Dayglow spent three nights in Austin for his last three shows of Dayglow the Tour. Night one was at Parish, the second at Scoot Inn, and the third, the last show on tour, was held at Stubb’s Amphitheater.

Opening for Dayglow at Scoot Inn was the Australian rock band Teenage Dads. The crew is made up of Jordan Finlay (vocals/guitar/keys), Connor McLaughlin (guitar), Vincent Kinna (drums), and Angus Christie (bass). The band has two studio albums, the last being Majordomo (2024). They played songs from the new album such as “Boarding Pass” and “Boyfriend.” Teenage Dads made for a great opener for Dayglow as their vibe went hand in hand. Mid-set, they performed an indie-rock version of The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star.” They closed their set with “Speedracer,” also from Majordomo, and “Teddy,” an older single from 2022.

At roughly 9 PM, Dayglow took to the stage and opened with a mashup of his songs “Junior Varsity” and “Broken Bone.” The intro was slow-paced, building suspense as the lights flashed, breaking up the darkness. Early in the set, Struble threw it back by performing “Hot Rod,” a track from his 2018 album Fuzzybrain. From the new self-titled album, the band played “Silver Lining,” “Cocoon,” and a few more other bops. As the set drew closer to the end, Struble introduced his band – Hunter on bass, Brady on drums, and Colin playing guitar. Struble also told the audience how each musician had attended The University of Texas in Austin, including Struble. He joked that he only made it five months before pursuing his career in making music.

Struble took a second to talk about his new album and told the crowd that he always loves to try new things so the next song would be a different version of his track “Second Nature.” As fans would know, the original incorporates a more electronic pop sound but this new version drew influence from soft/indie rock by just using the simple instruments they had on stage. They played the hit song “Can I Call You Tonight?” before leaving the stage, only to return a few minutes later after hearing the chants of “Encore!” Once returned to the stage, they closed with four songs “Close to You,” “False Direction,” “Listerine,” and “Run the World!!!”
