Davy Knowles at Reggies in Chicago, IL

Reggies was host to Davy Knowles’ adopted hometown show where the Chicago crowd got to hear tunes from his latest release, The Invisible Man

It was an unseasonably, but very welcome, warm evening. So warm that the front windows of Reggies were open to let the breeze waft through the music joint, making it feel like we were in the height of summer as we headed into the weekend. What better way to celebrate than with some live music to get the blood pumping. As the band walked through the crowd to take their positions on stage, the cheers went up as the excitement rose for the show ahead.

Whenever a Davy Knowles show is announced nearby, you know we have to be there! As many times as we’ve seen him perform live, it never gets old. Quite the contrary in fact. He goes from strength to strength every time. This is not surprising since we feel that The Invisible Man might be some of Knowles’ best work yet.

The audience didn’t have to wait long to hear the new tunes as they kicked things off with “Running out of Moonlight.” Nothing like a good dose of rock n roll to set the tone for the evening. Following this with “Riverbed,” a song that never fails to grasp everyone’s attention and get the feet stomping, and it wasn’t just the warm March air raising the temperature.

The setlist for the evening was the perfect mix of new songs and beloved older songs, such as “Ain’t Much of Nothin'” and “Oxford, MS” from Three Miles from Avalon. Getting to hear new songs such as “Around Here,” “Tell Me What You Want Me To Be,” and ” The Invisible Man” live for the first time was an absolute treat. This album really caught our attention when we first listened to it in the comfort of our home, but hearing these songs performed live helped bring them to life.

Davy has been joined by Tod Bowers (bass) and Mike Hansen (drums) for quite some time now, and it shows. Performances don’t get much tighter than this. Together, they brought the groove, blues, and rock n roll, blended in just the right amounts. The smiles shared between the band members made it feel like it was three friends jamming for fun and we’d all snuck in to watch. It’s a joy to watch and to be a part of.

If you haven’t got yourself a copy of The Invisible Man yet, you get one here. Knowles has plenty of tour dates scheduled already, and more keep getting added so make sure you keep an eye out for when he comes to a town near you.
