Iconic punk rocker, Billy Idol, entertained the Hard Rock Live in Gary, IN, for a memorable night as he proved he’s still got “it.”
To say people were eager for this show is an understatement. Celebrations included people having their photo taken with a Billy Idol lookalike in the lobby while others hit the bar. Some hit the bar a little too hard and unfortunately were escorted out of the venue before even getting to set eyes on the man himself. The line at the merch stand was impressively long and only disappeared once the band took to the stage. The fans were clearly excited for the show ahead as many were in their seats from very early on, which is not something you see all too often.
Even though the whole venue was set up with seats, it was impressive to see how many people were on their feet in anticipation of the band taking to the stage. The moment the lights dimmed, there was a roar that went up from the crowd as the band kicked off the evening with the Generation X hit, “Dancing With Myself.” The energy in the room was palpable as fans leaned as close as they could, singing, dancing, and fist-pumping in the air as they were taken on a trip down Memory Lane.
This was a treat for all ages, with songs that people who weren’t even around in the eighties know and love. It’s impossible not to sing along to the likes of “Eyes Without A Face,” “Mony Mony,” and, of course, “Rebel Yell” and “White Wedding.”
Billy, as always, was joined on stage by the legendary guitarist, Steve Stevens. The two just go together. Seeing one without the other would just be weird. Steve often got his moment to shine, but his solo was nothing short of outstanding. Billy Morrison also made his presence known. Having collaborated with both Billy and Steve for the past 15 years, he knows how to complement their styles.
After all of these years, Billy Idol proved once again that he still has the pull with tickets flying out of the door the moment they went on sale. Beyond that, he also showed that he still has the chops to back up attracting the large crowds. He knows how to put on a show without a second of it being phoned in. You always know what you’re going to get from a Billy Idol show, in a good way. Both he and the band as a whole are there to perform and put on a show worthy of the excitement and enthusiasm felt by the audience. These guys are seasoned professionals, and it shows.
The band is taking a break until July when the tour will kick off again in Portland, OR. Check out any upcoming dates near you as you will have a great time!
