Follow along with us as we travel across the U.S. to raise money for the National Independent Venue Foundation and Musicians On Call.
This weekend we will be setting off on a cross-country trip. Myself and our dog will be in our camper van while Phil will be riding his motorbike. We will head to New York to kick it off this weekend. Over the course of 5 and a half weeks we will be making stops at the following cities:
– New York, NY
– Cleveland, OH
– Detroit, MI
– Chicago, IL
– Johnson City, TN
– Nashville, TN
– Clarksdale, MS
– Florence, AL
– Austin, TX
– Albuquerque, NM
– Phoenix, AZ
– Los Angeles, CA
In each of these cities, we will be interviewing owners of independent music venues and covering a show. We will also be catching up with representatives of Musicians On Call.
As we embark on this rather lengthy trip, we are hoping to raise money for both of these causes. You can choose which charity you donate to (or donate to both if you like!). If you would like to donate to NIVF, click here, and to donate to Musicians On Call, click here.
We will be posting videos and updates as we go so be sure to follow along on our Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube pages.
National Independent Venue Foundation (NIVF) – The mission of the National Independent Venue Foundation (NIVF) is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live performance venues and promoters throughout the United States by supporting a transparent, competitive marketplace serving a diverse and inclusive community of artists, fans, and industry workers. The Foundation aims to learn from existing best practices and training programs undertaken by NIVA’s members and expand upon them to provide education and community programming, employee training and support, and economic development initiatives to further develop both organizations’ efforts to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion. Future programming will also support entrepreneurship, management training, and minority business funding.
Musicians On Call (MOC) brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients, families, and caregivers in healthcare environments. By delivering live, in-room performances to patients undergoing treatment or unable to leave their beds, they add a dose of joy to life in a healthcare facility. As the nation’s leading provider of live music in hospitals, Musicians On Call volunteers have performed for more than one million individuals through bedside and virtual programs across all 50 states. MOC believes that everyone should have access to and benefit from the healing power of live music. It has been demonstrated that music has a direct effect on people and can manage stress, alleviate pain, and improve blood pressure, outlook, and overall mood.
Kirstine moved from the UK to Chicago in 2011, and has fallen in love with the city and its music scene. She enjoys combining her two biggest passions – music and photography. If there is a band with a guitar playing, chances are she’ll be there…camera in hand. Kirstine went to her first live concert at 7 years old, and hasn’t looked back since!
