When you sit down to listen to an album, the listener usually wants something specific to stick out to them. However, listening to the new Reverend Horton Heat album, you will find that pretty much the entire album sticks out. This is not your ordinary album with simple riffs, same beats, and just the generic mainstream stuff that you hear on the radio all the time. This band achieves the impossible by creating a modern sound that is incredibly nostalgic and very pleasing to the ears. The production is modern, but the music vibe is a great mixture of a little of everything. Every song is incredibly fun, and it’s just that much more special because it’s unique and it’s a sound that can appeal to all audiences that love music.
Rockabilly is a sound that is just not heard or celebrated like it used to be, but legendary musician Jim Heath with his bandmates Jimbo Wallace on bass, Arjuna “RJ” Contreras on drums, and Matt Jordan on piano, create something that’s entirely original. It is evident that throughout that the album it took some time to write. Musically, as stated before, this album is absolutely stunning. The album has shades of the 50s, 60s, all the way up to having modern sounds that are put together in such a brilliant manner, that even if you aren’t a rockabilly fan you will still appreciate the talent that went into creating this complex work of art. Some of the more notable tracks on the record are “Sunrise Through the Power Lines” and “Perfect.” They standout because these two songs are a great example of just how fun and melodic the album can be with both a vibe to have fun and a vibe to love, there isn’t a reason this album couldn’t be played over and over and have longevity. The lyrics in this album are a total blast, plain and simple. They are great sing-along songs and with fairly positive lyrics, it can appeal to any audience, including those with family. There’s just something for everyone in this album.
